Emma Pickles is a children’s author who was inspired to write whilst living by the sea on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey. Emma’s work to date forms her ‘Coastal Series’, which is made up of her debut work ‘Sidney Seagull Starts The Stomp’, her second title ‘The Famous Fins Of Florence Fish’ and her third title ‘The Curious Case of Claudius Crab’ which makes up the trilogy.
The books celebrate diversity and difference, with each one delivering a subtle moral message for the reader. The books are charmingly illustrated and will appeal to children of all ages. Each book features a seashore creature that children will be familiar with, a plucky young seagull called Sidney, a shy little fish called Florence and a crab called Claudius who has a huge heart.
Emma has recently enjoyed collaborating with the children of a local school to write a story based on their school’s motto of “Courage, Perseverance and Success”, the artwork being drawn by a former student! “I’ve really enjoyed taking my workshop visits to a new level with this fantastic collaboration. The children were a joy to work with and the very talented artist, a former pupil, has really brought our characters to life! Hopefully it will be something the pupils and the school can enjoy for years to come.”
Emma is currently working on her fourth book, a story about a boy and his favourite toy. Watch this space for further details!

In Key Stage 1 settings Emma will talk to the children about how she became an author, about the process in which ‘Sidney Seagull Starts the Stomp’, ‘The Famous Fins of Florence Fish’ & ‘The Curious Case of Claudius Crab’ were written and published.
